Digital Asset Management
Digital Asset Management (DAM) lies at the heart of SunGard’s strategic vision for the management of digital assets in the UK Police service.
Over recent years a number of different ‘acquisition technologies’ have been trialled across the UK but these trials have been on a relatively small scale focussed on individual operational needs.
To really derive the true service-wide benefits of utilising all the available sources of digital data a number of issues need to be addressed:
- There will be an exponential increase in the volume of digital assets requiring robust networks
- No real workflow exists for the acquisition and cataloguing of acquired assets
- Haphazard metadata
- Search function capability erroneous
- Back up, storage and retrieval sadly lacking
- Security and time issues involved in transferring media assets around the wards and boroughs breeds inefficiencies.
There is a simple process that SunGard uses to support a force in developing a strategy for implementing a DAM solution:
With its expertise and knowledge of the Criminal Justice environment and process within force operations SunGard has been able to work with its own solutions and chosen partners to develop an enterprise Digital Asset Management solution, capable of handling large volumes of digital assets supporting the creation of workflows, backup, storage, search and re-purposing of content and including Digital Rights Management tools for data deletion on a time sensitive basis in line with force policies.
