UNIFI - Usability

UNIFI is a Microsoft Windows based product with the following characteristics:

  • Uses a Windows 'look-and-feel' including standard Windows features, reducing the learning curve for users familiar with a Windows environment;
  • Intuitive to use, leading to low training costs;
  • Supports assisted data entry (e.g. system defaults) and field validation;
  • Provides keyboard shortcuts for menu items and common functions, and quick access buttons for commonly used modules;
  • Provides a flexible approach to data entry, whilst enforcing consistency across the force;
  • Presents relevant data at the right time – officers are not overloaded with information – but additional information is only a button press away;
  • Presents a user interface for core business processes that has been refined through live use over many years with a substantial user population;
  • Proven to be robust and performant.

The UNIFI application includes a User Workbench, which presents a workload view to every user upon log-on. This displays Crimes, Enquiries, Task, Workflows and Cases that have been allocated to them. Also displayed are saved search results from previous sessions as well as any completed searches during their current session.

The user will also see navigation history entries for any record they have accessed in the current session. All these records can be accessed by clicking on the relevant record. Right clicking records in a user's workflow will allow a choice of view or update of the record if the user's security rights allow this.
