Circles of Influence
There are a number of areas that generate digital media within day to day operations, all of which could be useful beyond their immediate circle of influence.
Currently this data is available on disparate technologies and systems but not addressable from a single point - leading to costly and time consuming procedures for requesting, copying and moving data – in turn creating multiple copies and diluting the efficient management of the data.
By seeking to provide force-wide, content addressable, indexed media storage with the aim of rationalising the footprint of technology, in turn supporting business operations, we need to understand the varied types of data, data sources and uses for the data.
For example the ability to review the initial 999 call alongside CCTV images and headcam data, and subsequently with recorded interview information, could provide an investigating officer with a much wider view on the circumstances leading to or precipitating the incident that led to the crime that he is investigating.
As well as the force’s internal systems there are also other sources of media that should be taken in to consideration when looking at this roadmap:
- Other forces and partner agencies
- News and television media
- Citizen
